First time here? You’re welcome to The Circumspect Ltd. We are an ed-tech company seeking to bridge the gap between Academia and Industry in Nigeria. We seek to do this by tackling the problems of higher education one problem at a time.
In our previous post, we said that the gap between academia and industry in developing nations is a major cause of economic setbacks. We added that one key indicator of this gap is how very little of knowledge acquired in higher education—particularly knowledge derived from the outcomes of research projects—is used by industry.
Our standpoint is backed by the outcome of a survey evaluating the level of academia projects’ usability in industries.
In the survey, we inquired about the students’ availability and use of their research projects as well as their openness to discussing the findings of those projects, among other things.
While interpreting the results, an obvious deduction was graduates’ willingness to discuss and apply their findings toward solving industry challenges. Another was that even though many respondents still have a copy of their research project available to them, a sizable portion of them never have a reason to revisit the projects.
Combining both deductions, it becomes evident that a gap exists that prevents industries’ utilization of students’ research projects in Nigeria despite the apparent willingness of graduates to discuss and apply their findings.
We have also displayed the results in the charts below for your perusal. Do you agree with our inference above and are there other noteworthy deductions that can be made from the results? Let us know your thoughts and inferences in the comment section below.

In case you haven’t completed the survey or would like to share it with others, a copy of the form is available here.
In the meantime, we will love to hear your feedback/comments on the need for a central interactive platform for academia and industry. Do you think it is important for academia and industry to consistently engage in meaningful and productive ways? Feel free to share your thoughts on how this can be achieved in the comments…
